Roads and railway lines diagnostics

In order to determine geotechnical foundations conditions of linear infrastructures such as roads, railways and pipelines, the biggest problem is to achieve a compromise between the amount of field investigations and the accuracy of diagnosis of geotechnical conditions.

Geopartner applies georadar technique (GPR), which allow to minimize the necessary amount of classical geotechnical investigations. The systematic correlation of GPR profiles with geotechnical tests is an objective assessment about the subgrade conditions of the investigated infrastructure: these surveys provide detailed information continuously and non-invasively on the structure of the medium in order to determine the continuity of the geotechnical boundaries and the presence of structural defects.

GPR technique is used to continuously monitor the roadbed and railway trackbed, without affecting traffic flow or train schedules.

In order to assess the road surface condition, in addition to the GPR method is recommended the use of seismic methods, especially in the MASW version; as a result of these surveys there are: seismic 2D / 3D depth sections together with geological-engineering interpretation, maps of P- and S-waves velocity distribution (tomography of rock beds and refractive tomography of substrate), determination of specific parameters (eg. elasticity Ed, volumetric strain Gd, Poisson's ratio νd and static modules: deformation D, elasticity ES).
